Last weekend WCS was a Dasher Sponser of the Salvation Army’s Santa Shuffle, a 5km Fun Run or 1km Elf Walk. The event raised money for the Salvation Army to be used to assist families and individuals in need during the Holiday season and throughout the year. Participants combined fitness and festivity with many runners wearing fun holiday costumes. Everyone energetically participated in a warm-up to holiday songs before running through the park. Spirits were high as the sun shone down on the event for the first time in years.
In order to divert event waste from the landfill WCS Recycling was happy to provide bins for drink containers, other plastic containers, and compostables. After the event, runners munched on snacks and delicious chilly provided by the Salvation Army. Compostable chili bowls and spoons were used to prevent waste and more than 100 pounds of organics were collected at the event. WCS looks forward to supporting the event once again next year!
